Asuransi – The History of Insurance
Asuransi is an Indonesian word for insurance. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of risk of loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for payment. The early methods of transferring or distributing risk were practiced by Chinese and Babylonian traders as long ago as 3000-2000 BC, which is about 5000 years. Chinese traders used to travel with a lot of precious things, they traveled through the land and water. If the shipment arrived in good condition, the dealer should pay back the loan to the lender an additional sum in exchange for a guarantee to the lender to cancel the loan should the shipment be stolen.
In England, the insurance was established in the late 17th century. In the late 17th century, the growing importance of London as a center for trade has increased the demand for marine insurance. While in the United States in 1752, the Philadelphia Insurance Contribution ship Houses loss by fire has become the first mutual fire insurance in America.
Insurance in Indonesia started in the Dutch colonial period, associated with business success of the country in the plantation sector and trade in Indonesia. To ensure its survival, insurance is absolutely necessary. During the activities of the Second World War of insurance in Indonesia almost stalled, mainly due to the closure of the insurance companies owned by Dutch and British.
After the First World War ended, the British company and the Dutch company resume operations in Indonesia after its independence. Until 1964, the insurance market in Indonesia was still dominated by foreign companies, especially the Dutch and English.
About 10 years later, in 1975, Avrist ancestor began when Harry PT Asuransi Jiwa Diah established Ikrar Abadi (Ajia) officially in November 1975. Ajia headquarters located in one of the properties in Jalan Saharjo, Jakarta. Ajia opened the Management Division of the group, which offered a variety of products and services, group insurance and pension funds. In 1984, Ajia made joint venture with American International Assurance. (AIA) and became the first multinational joint venture life insurance in Indonesia. In 2009, Indonesia PT AIA renamed Avrist insurance and became an independent company, with the support of more than one million loyal customers, a vast network of distribution channels and reputation as a leader in the Indonesian insurance market.
